stories between worlds.

Hi, my Name is Alina Yklymova. I’m a writer and director with roots in Turkmenistan and Germany. My work moves between realism and poetic staging: observation, truthfulness and proximity shape my method, even when I tell scripted stories. I’m drawn to people living between worlds, where identity, language and power collide. My films look for friction in the everyday and allow ambivalence to stay visible.

Recent work includes the shorts Muha, Kurschatten (Goosebumps) and Störenfrieda (She is a good boy), which have screened at festivals such as Max Ophüls Preis, IN THE PALACE (Bulgaria), and ShortS Trieste (Italy), receiving recognition including the Best Film Award at filmreif!, the DACHfilmzeit Innovation Award (Filmzeit Kaufbeuren) and a Jury Special Mention at Düsseldorf Filmfest.
My practice has been supported by the Deutschlandstipendium, the Norbert Janssen Stiftung, the “Into the Wild” directors’ mentoring and the X3 Spaces Residency.

I’m currently completing my first feature Matröshki, now in post-production, a co-production with Schiwagofilm, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg SWR, WDR, and HR – supported by MFG Baden-Württemberg and HessenFilm.
